Overview

Why the SRRV Visa?

The Philippines Special Resident Retiree's Visa (SRRV) offers indefinite residence for qualified principal applicants aged 40 and above. SRRV Classic: deposit depends on age and pension status — the PRA distinguishes 50+ and 40–49, and pensioner vs non-pensioner. SRRV Courtesy: for foreign nationals in special categories and former Filipinos, with separate deposit levels for 50+ and 40–49.

The Philippines offers a unique combination of low cost of living, English-speaking population, tropical climate, and warm hospitality. Many expats particularly appreciate the proximity to other Asian destinations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work in the Philippines with the SRRV?
The SRRV alone does not authorize work. You additionally need an Alien Employment Permit (AEP). However, remote work for foreign companies is common.
What happens to my deposit?
The deposit remains in your name at a Philippine bank. With SRRV Classic, you can invest it in property. Upon visa cancellation, the deposit is refunded.
Which SRRV program is right for me?
SRRV Classic targets retirees and non-retirees aged 40 and above; deposit levels depend on age and pension status. SRRV Courtesy targets foreign nationals in special categories and former Filipinos. The annual PRA fee is US$360 for the principal retiree and up to two dependants.
What is life like in the Philippines as a retiree?
The Philippines is one of the most popular retirement destinations in Asia. The cost of living is very low, the climate is tropically warm, and the English-speaking population greatly eases daily life. Cebu, Davao, and Tagaytay are particularly popular.
What taxes will I pay in the Philippines?
Foreigners are generally taxed in the Philippines only on Philippine-sourced income. Foreign-sourced income is generally not taxed in the Philippines for foreign individuals, but Philippine-sourced income and local investments can still have tax consequences. Strasia recommends individual tax advice.
Can my spouse come along?
Yes, your spouse and unmarried children under 21 can be included as dependants in the SRRV. An additional fee applies for the spouse.
