Which EP category do I need?
EP I for salaries from MYR 10,000 (up to 5 years), EP II for MYR 5,000–9,999 (up to 2 years). EP III is for specific sectors only.
Can my family come along?
Yes, from a salary of MYR 5,000, spouse and children can obtain a Dependent Pass. Children can be enrolled in international schools.
What taxes will I pay in Malaysia?
Malaysia levies income tax on income from Malaysian sources. The rate is progressive at 0–30%. Since 2022: foreign income remitted to Malaysia may be taxable. Capital gains on shares are not taxed.
What is the path to Permanent Residency?
After 5 years of continuous residence with an Employment Pass, you can apply for PR. Approval is not guaranteed and depends on factors such as salary, tax payments, and contribution to the economy.
