Influencer & Creator: from channel to company

For creators who already earn, on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and other platforms. A company in Hong Kong, the US or Singapore brings all your income into one business account, makes you a contracting partner on equal footing with brands, and lowers the tax on company profits when your residence and place of management fit.

Do I need a company as a creator?

Not from the first dollar, but once there is a trigger: a brand wants to contract with a company, money comes from several platforms and countries, you pay a team or you move abroad. A company in Hong Kong, the US or Singapore then brings payouts, brand deals and products together in one business account. It also lowers your tax when your residence and where the company is run allow it: Hong Kong taxes profits at 8.25% or 16.5%, and only profits sourced in Hong Kong. If you live in a high-tax country and run the company from there, that country taxes it. Your personal tax always follows your residence.

Creator Check · 1 minute

Company or not, and if so, where?

Four questions on residence, income, payers and trigger. The result appears here straight away, no email needed. On request we send you the checklist “Creator company: order, payouts, account”.

  1. Where do you live, i.e. where are you tax resident?

  2. Where does most of your income come from?

  3. Where are most of those who pay you: platforms, brands, buyers?

  4. What makes you think about a company now?

Your result appears here once all four questions are answered. Nothing is sent.

Overview

From channel to company: what changes with a company

Many creators earn for years through the same personal setup: AdSense into a personal account, brand deals via PayPal, courses through a third platform. That works until money comes from several countries, a brand wants a company as its contracting party, or your first team members need paying.

From then on, the channel becomes a business. Your own company, for example in Hong Kong, the US or Singapore, brings platform payouts, sponsoring and merch into a business account of the company; we support you with opening the account, and the bank or payment provider decides on it. You invoice brand deals through the company, engage your team through the company, and we keep the figures in one set of books.

And tax? Hong Kong taxes company profits at 8.25% or 16.5%, and only profits sourced in Hong Kong; Singapore at 17%. That is far less than in many European countries. Whether you benefit depends on your residence and on where the company is run from. That is why we clarify your residence and income first, then where the company should be, and we also tell you if you do not need one.
What you gain

What your own company does for you as a creator

One business account for every platform

AdSense, Twitch, brand deals and shop sales go into one company account, in several currencies. We support you with opening it; the bank or payment provider decides on the account.

Contracts on equal footing

Brands and agencies contract with a company, not with your private name. Contract, invoice and payment come from one source and look as professional as your content.

Tax-efficient where it fits

Hong Kong taxes company profits at 8.25% or 16.5%, and only profits sourced in Hong Kong; Singapore at 17% with partial exemptions. You pay less tax when your residence and the place of management fit. We clarify that beforehand, honestly.

Personal and business kept apart

Clear records, bookkeeping we do for you, and figures you can explain to your bank and tax adviser at any time.

Partners in Asia and the US

A company in Hong Kong, the US or Singapore is a familiar contracting party for agencies, platforms and brands there. The platform still runs its own checks.

Grow with a team and a brand

Pay editors, managers and freelancers through the company, run merch and courses under one structure, and add a holding later if needed.

Your situation, answered briefly

Tap the situation that fits you.

Creators often outgrow their old setup before they notice it

As revenue grows, the old structure can become inefficient, fragile or difficult to explain to banks and payment providers. Those who switch in time negotiate with brands as a company, have one account for every platform and know which tax is due where.

Common Risks & Hidden Complexity

01

Everything in your personal account

All income in one personal account complicates tax returns and audits and makes professional invoicing hardly possible.

02

Missing US tax form

Without valid US tax information, Google may withhold 24% of an individual’s worldwide YouTube earnings. With the right form it is 0 to 30% only on earnings from US viewers, depending on the treaty.

03

Depending on a single payment provider

If everything runs through a single PayPal account, a freeze or limit can stop your income abruptly. A business account of the company alongside the platform payouts spreads this risk; each bank or payment provider decides on its account itself.

04

Overlooking residence and place of management

A company abroad does not change where you yourself are taxable. If it is in fact managed from where you live, it can be taxable there too. These questions belong before formation, together with your tax adviser.

To be clear

What a company does not solve

Your residence

Where you live is where you pay personal tax, including on dividends and salary from the company.

Where the company is run

If the company is in fact run from where you live, it can be taxable there.

The bank’s decision

We prepare the documents and guide the account opening. Whether an account is opened is up to the bank or payment provider.

The platform’s review

Each platform checks the company, account and tax form itself and may have its own requirements.

Popular Structures & Setups

Hong Kong Limited for creators
Fits if your income comes from many countries. Profits tax of 8.25% on the first HKD 2 million and 16.5% above, only on profits sourced in Hong Kong; whether profits from abroad are exempt is reviewed by the IRD. What applies at home depends on your residence. No local director needed; every active company is audited yearly. Support with opening accounts at banks and payment providers.
HK
US LLC for US platforms
Fits if your audience and platforms are mainly in the US. A single-member LLC with a foreign owner is generally transparent: it usually pays no US federal income tax, and its profits are allocated to you and taxed where you are resident. Towards platforms, the owner provides their Form W-8, not a W-9. Form 5472 is due every year. US banking and Stripe after review by the bank or provider.
USA
Singapore Pte. Ltd. for creators with partners in Asia
Fits if your brands and partners are in Southeast Asia. 17% headline rate, partial exemptions with conditions. At least one director ordinarily resident in Singapore is required.
SG
Multi-entity for scaled creators
Holding and operating companies for creators with several brands, merch lines or business areas. Only worthwhile once each area has real business.
HKSGUSA
Dubai free zone
Only worthwhile if you genuinely want to live in Dubai. 9% corporate tax on profits above AED 375,000, with conditional relief for qualifying free zone income; at home, your residence decides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do influencers have to pay taxes?
Yes. Income from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and brand deals is income and is taxed in your country of residence. German tax authorities, for example, treat influencers as running a business, and free products, trips and hotel stays count at their market value. A company abroad does not change this as long as you live in a high-tax country and run the company from there.
When do influencers have to start paying tax?
The income belongs in your tax return from the first euro or dollar; whether tax is due depends on your total income and your country. Germany 2026, for example: income tax only above the basic allowance of €12,348, small-business VAT exemption up to €25,000 turnover in the previous year and €100,000 in the current year. Austria 2026: 0% bracket up to €13,539. Switzerland: platform income must be declared from the first franc, VAT registration from CHF 100,000 turnover. Other countries have their own thresholds.
How are YouTube and TikTok earnings taxed?
In the tax return of your country of residence. On top of that comes the US side: YouTube and TikTok withhold US tax on earnings from US viewers. With a valid Form W-8BEN (individual) or W-8BEN-E (company) it is 0 to 30% depending on the tax treaty; without tax information, Google may withhold 24% of an individual’s worldwide earnings. The right form saves real money.
Do I need a company as a YouTuber?
Not from day one. YouTube pays individuals too. A company pays off once there is a trigger: brand deals that should run through a company, several income streams, a team or a move. The Creator Check on this page shows in one minute whether that already applies to you.
Do I need an LLC for my YouTube channel?
Only if mainly US platforms and US brands pay you and you want US accounts and US contracts. A single-member LLC with a foreign owner is generally transparent in the US: its profits are allocated to you and taxed where you are resident. Towards YouTube, the owner provides their W-8, not a W-9, and Form 5472 is due with the IRS every year.
Hong Kong, Singapore or US LLC: which fits creators?
Hong Kong if money comes from many countries: 8.25% or 16.5% profits tax only on profits sourced in Hong Kong, no local director. A US LLC if mainly US platforms and US brands pay you. Singapore if your brands are in Southeast Asia; a director resident in Singapore is required there. If you live in Europe and mainly European partners pay you, a company at home is often simpler.
Do I pay less tax with a company abroad?
Yes, when the conditions are right. The company pays the tax of its location, in Hong Kong 8.25% or 16.5% and only on profits sourced in Hong Kong, in Singapore 17%. You pay less overall when you do not live in a high-tax country and the company is not run from there either. If you live in a high-tax country and run the company from there, it is taxable there, and controlled foreign company rules may apply. We clarify this before formation.
Which tax form does YouTube need from creators outside the US?
Individuals submit Form W-8BEN in AdSense; companies outside the US submit W-8BEN-E. For a single-member US LLC with a foreign owner, the owner provides their W-8, not a W-9. With valid information, Google withholds 0 to 30% only on earnings from US viewers, depending on the treaty. Twitch, TikTok and Patreon also ask non-US creators for a W-8.
Do I need a tax adviser as an influencer?
For your personal tax in your country of residence, we clearly recommend one. We handle formation, support with account opening, bookkeeping and annual accounts of the company abroad, and coordinate with your tax adviser so that both sides fit together.
Influencer contract through a company: what changes?
The brand’s contracting party is then the company, not you personally. The invoice comes from the company, the money goes into its business account. In the contract, watch usage rights, advertising disclosure and payment terms. Existing contracts can often be transferred to the company if the brand agrees.
Which platforms pay out to a company?
The common platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, Shopify, Stripe, PayPal or Patreon generally pay out to companies as well. Each platform checks the company, the account and the tax form itself and may have its own requirements; we prepare the documents for this.
Can I continue living in my home country?
Yes. You then remain taxable there, and if the company is managed from there, it can be taxable there too. A company abroad is then worthwhile more for order, contracts and payment routes. A real tax advantage only comes with a residence outside the high-tax country. We review your situation and tell you openly what fits.
How does bookkeeping work for creators?
We handle ongoing bookkeeping and the annual accounts of the company. You send us your receipts and platform statements, we do the rest. In Hong Kong every active company is audited each year; in the US, filings such as Form 5472 are part of it.
What about VAT on merch and courses?
Whether and where VAT or sales tax applies depends on where your buyers are and how you sell. We clarify this with you and your tax adviser when setting up Shopify and Stripe.
